The First Year of Newsmax Balkans Television: How It All Began and How Far We’ve Come
On this very day one year ago, on October 14th at 6 p.m., Newsmax Balkans began broadcasting. The editor and host of the show “Presek”, Stanko Pevac, looked back on the beginnings and the growth of our television channel.
We launched our programming with what has now become our branded central news broadcast - Presek at 6. After that came our now well-known shows: Open Your Eyes, Presek and Daily Viewpoint, Synthesis, Searching for a Word, Windows of the Balkans, and our recognizable documentary programming.
Over time - in less than a year - we have expanded to nearly all the countries in the region. We now provide regional news on a daily basis and have sent our reporters across the world. Today we can boast of live reports from Brussels, Germany, and several cities in the United States... and we’re not stopping there - our expansion continues into Central and Eastern Europe. Ambitious plans, a high-quality, professional, and expert team - these are our main strengths.
Stanko Pevac, editor and host of "Presek", said he feels as though five years have passed, considering how many things have happened in our lives and in this studio.
Recalling the beginnings, Pevac mentioned the U.S. presidential election on November 6th last year and the special eight-hour broadcast that covered it.
Exactly one year ago, Newsmax Balkans television launched its programming, laying the foundations for an entirely new media network built on the highest American standards of television journalism.
Twenty Israeli hostages from Gaza, held captive by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, have been released, among them Alon Ohel, one of the first seven to be freed. An AP journalist reporting live from Tel Aviv told our television that people were crying and filled with hope.
On Sunday, October 12, the 47th Chicago Marathon - one of the largest in the world - was held, setting records for the number of participants, with as many as 53.000 runners taking to the course.
"With other colleagues and guests who rotated quickly throughout the night, we followed the course of the election and were the first in the Balkans to announce the name of the new U.S. president, Donald Trump. Then, right after that, we started our morning program, and soon after, a whole cycle of shows began. I think that was a turning point - those breaking news broadcasts were a real milestone. It surprised us a bit, but it also helped us connect new technology with a new team of people who worked together for the first time on October 14th . It was a very short period of getting to know each other", Pevac said on "Presek".
He also recalled November 1st 2024, when the collapse of a canopy occurred in Novi Sad.
"Those breaking news reports came straight into this studio. After that, we had a three-hour live program that demonstrated the remarkable strength of our team", Pevac emphasized.
He noted that there were mistakes over the past year, but everyone at Newsmax Balkans learned together and achieved as much as they could.
"This is a television network that brought together experienced people. Somehow, it feels like everyone contributed in their own way, with their knowledge and experience. That’s not just a phrase - it’s truly a combination of experience and youthful energy, creativity, and traditional expertise", Pevac explained.
Pevac sent a message to viewers to continue watching our television channel.
"Believe that we are special, that we are unique, and give us a chance. We will continue to cooperate - because trust is not something we just claim to have, it’s something we prove every single day, in every program", Pevac said.
