The Second Meeting of International Participants of EXPO 2027 has begun in Belgrade, gathering around 500 delegates and media representatives from 138 countries worldwide.
The ceremonial opening was attended by high representatives of state institutions, international organizations, and national delegations.
At the start of the event, speeches were given by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Serbia, Sinisa Mali; Minister of Internal and External Trade and EXPO 2027 Commissioner, Jagoda Lazarevic; Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), Dimitris Kerkentzes; and Director of EXPO 2027, Danilo Jerinic.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali emphasized that EXPO 2027 Belgrade will be the largest specialized expo exhibition in history and the biggest global event of that year.
Who Are Belgrade’s Guests
Delegations have arrived from Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Israel, as well as key African nations such as South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
Participants also include representatives of leading world economies, including the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and China, along with delegations from numerous countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
The meeting is also attended by representatives of the United Nations, as well as many international organizations and development agencies.
In the coming days, ministers, state secretaries, ambassadors, and directors of national institutions responsible for economy, trade, innovation, tourism, culture, and sports will gather in Belgrade to work with organizers on defining the next steps and plans for their countries’ participation in EXPO 2027.
Serbia Sets Record for Number of Registered Countries
The strong interest in the specialized exhibition in Belgrade is confirmed by the fact that Serbia holds the absolute record for the number of registered countries for specialized expos.
In order to protect the domestic market from shortages and rising prices, the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted a decision at an emergency session to ban the export of oil and all petroleum products used for motor fuel. The decision will remain in effect until March 19.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated that the government will send Air Serbia planes to bring back Serbian citizens from the Middle East who wish to evacuate, as soon as the airspace in that region opens for civilian flights.
So far, 137 countries have applied to participate in EXPO 2027, significantly surpassing the previous record set by the Astana 2017 exhibition, which brought together 117 participating nations.
