Increased Penalties: Up to 8 Years in Prison for Attacks on Employees in Education, Healthcare, and Social Institutions
The Serbian Parliament has adopted amendments to the Criminal Code, proposed by the parliamentary group "Aleksandar Vučić - Serbia Must Not Stop," which specifically foresees punishment for attacks and violence against employees in education, healthcare, and social protection.
The amendments state that anyone who attacks an employee in an educational institution or a family member of such an employee, in connection with the work being performed at the institution, will be punished with imprisonment from three months to three years.
"If the perpetrator causes light bodily harm to an employee in an educational institution or a family member of such an employee or threatens with a weapon during the commission of the crime, they will be punished with imprisonment from six months to five years. If the perpetrator causes serious bodily harm, they will be punished with imprisonment from one to eight years," the amendments to the Criminal Code say.
The Members of Parliament of Serbia have adopted the budget for the year 2025. The revenues of the national treasury for the next year will amount to 2,346.2 billion dinars, while the expenditures and outlays will be 2,660.2 billion dinars. The opposition did not participate in the voting.
Additionally, anyone who destroys, damages, or makes unusable the property of an employee in an educational institution or a family member of such an employee will be punished with a fine or imprisonment of up to two years.
If the damage caused exceeds 450,000 dinars, the perpetrator will be punished with imprisonment from six months to five years.
The same penalties will apply to attacks on employees in healthcare and social protection institutions.
